Labio’s research journey into gas chromatography started at Linköping University in Sweden. It all began in the 1960s when Dr. Verner Lagesson and Dr. Ludmila Lagesson-Andrasko, a remarkable couple, embarked on pioneering research primarily focused on atomic absorption spectroscopy. However, their curiosity and passion extended to other analytical chemical methods, including gas chromatography, atomic fluorescence, and microwave-induced plasma detectors (MIP-detectors) for gas chromatography.

Scientific Excellence

With their relentless pursuit of scientific excellence, Dr. Lagesson and Dr. Lagesson-Andrasko developed a unique and innovative method called GC-UV (Gas Chromatography with Ultraviolet Detection). This method stood out from other analytical chemical techniques and opened new avenues for precise analysis. Their groundbreaking work laid the foundation for Labio’s future involvement in gas chromatography research.

Scientific Excellence with GC-UV

Recognizing the immense potential of GC-UV, Labio a.s. was bought by entrepreneurs that then bough the IP-rights from Linköping University. Labio a.s. took on the responsibility of manufacturing the first prototype devices for GC-UV. This marked a significant milestone in Labio’s history as the company transitioned from research to practical application, combining scientific expertise with engineering prowess. In parallel, Labio’s spinoff, Labio Medical AB, emerged as a scientific and promising player in the field of medical analysis and diagnostics research in Sweden, with a particular interest on lung cancer and diabetes. Leveraging the expertise in analytical chemistry, Labio Medical AB develops innovative approaches and technologies to advance the early detection and diagnosis of lung cancer and diabetes, a critical area in medical research.
